Treat a passport image like a sensitive record

A full passport image can expose a name, date of birth, passport number and other identifying information. Avoid sharing full images in public posts, open group chats or unsecured cloud links.

Redact when a full copy is not required

If a legitimate organization needs limited information, ask what is actually required and whether a redacted copy is acceptable. Never provide identity-document details to a site merely because it claims to be “official.” Verify the organization and domain first.

Keep your own copy secure

If you maintain a backup image for emergencies, protect the account or device that stores it. Use a strong device passcode and account security features, and avoid leaving the copy in a public photo album or shared folder.
